The Costco shopping experience—giant boxes of cookies, 88-packs of soda, and lots and lots of bulk—is all about convenience. But just because it’s convenient doesn’t mean it’s good. Some of their signature Kirkland products leave a lot to be desired, even though the low price tag might make you think twice about walking away empty-handed. We’ve picked out two examples of both the best and worst Kirkland items to help you better evaluate whether or not you should really buy that giant pack of diapers or that rotisserie chicken from Costco the next time you visit.
The worst of Costco – The Noetic Scooter
One Kirkland product that is not worth your time or money is the Noetic Scooter. This self-balancing electric scooter has a remote control but doesn’t go very far on one charge. Reviews also show that it takes a long time to charge. It’s basically like driving a car without gas.
The best of Costco – Organic Fuji Apples
That was easy! Organic Fuji apples are a great, healthy snack that you can grab at the last minute. They’re not too expensive either, so they’ll fit any budget. The best part is that they have a 3-year shelf life which means you don’t have to worry about eating them too fast! If you’re looking for an apple fix in the winter or your favorite seasonal fruit year-round, these are definitely worth checking out.
The worst of Costco – Quaker Large Seedless Raisins
Along with Quaker Large Seedless Raisins, we found a few other things that are actually not worth your hard-earned buck. The Costco-branded cashews are $6 more expensive than the store brand and lack most of the nutritional value. Plus, we’ve been hearing reports that batteries in Costco Kirkland products can leak.
The best of Costco – Pedigree Dentastix Treats for Dogs
Since my dog, Rex was a pup he has loved Pedigree Dentastix Treats. They are his favorite treat and are great for keeping his teeth clean and breath fresh. They’re the perfect size for him to chew through, too! I love that these treats come in three different flavors (original beef, chicken, turkey) because it means I can switch it up from time to time. It also means I don’t have to worry about getting bored with just one flavor! Plus, they’re made in North America which is so important when buying food for your pet. My dog loves these treats so much that he goes crazy when I open the bag – he knows what’s coming!
The worst of Costco – Pringles Pops Jalapeno Flavored Potato Crisps
I was psyched when I saw Pringles Pops Jalapeno Flavored Potato Crisps. I love the original Pringles, so I was sure this had to be equally as tasty. Boy, was I wrong? The first bite made me gag because it tasted like a chemical fire. It took another two bites before it started tasting more like jalapenos than battery acid. The aftertaste is really gross too; it stays in your mouth for hours.
The best of Costco – OGX Renewing Argan Oil Shampoo and Conditioner Set
Coffee lovers, this one’s for you! If you love the smell and taste of your morning cup of Joe, then you’ll fall head over heels for this OGX set. Not only does it smell like a warm, comforting cup of java but it also contains Argan Oil to help fight frizzies and leave your locks soft. Let the caffeine boost continue with milk in your cereal, cookies, or muffins for afternoon snacks or a cold glass of milk at night!
The worst of Costco – Black Diamond Yukon Z90 Headlamp (Rechargeable)
Costco’s Black Diamond Yukon Z90 Headlamp is a rechargeable headlamp that will charge via any USB port. Unfortunately, the lithium-ion battery can leak, which means your headlamp could start leaking battery acid onto your electronics. It also has a tendency to overheat while charging. Unless you want to risk frying your phone or tablet, we recommend looking elsewhere for something more reliable.
